چکیده

A simulation and experimental study has been conducted on equivalent dipole layer imaging (EDLI) of brain electric sources from EEG. Using the three-sphere inhomogeneous head model, the performance of the EDLI was rigorously evaluated for a variety of brain source configurations under different noise levels. The present simulation results demonstrate the excellent performance of the EDLI in mapping and imaging the underlying cortical sources with much enhanced spatial resolution, as compared to the scalp potentials. Human experiments were further conducted to examine the feasibility of EDLI. Pattern reversal visual evoked potentials (VEP) were recorded from 94 electrodes and the brain electric sources at P100 were estimated. The VEP experiments demonstrate that the present EDLI can eliminate the misleading far field in the scalp potential map, localize and map the underlying cortical sources induced by the visual stimuli.

Background: Brain electrical activity is a spatio-temporally distributed process. Cortical imaging techniques have been developed to reconstruct cortical activity from the scalp electroencephalographic or magnetoencephalographic measurements. Several cortical imaging approaches, such as the epicortical potentials and a dipole layer accounting for the cortical activity, have been used to represe...

Equivalent Dipole Sources Localization using Cortical Dipole Layer Imaging and Independent Component Analysis

We developed a new estimation method for equivalent dipole sources inside the brain. We have solved an inverse problem to estimate an equivalent dipole-layer distribution from the scalp electroencephalogram using spatio-temporal inverse filters. We estimated the position and moment of equivalent dipole sources from dipole layer distributions and separated each dipole layer distribution using in...

Cortical Dipole Layer Imaging of Brain Electrical Activity in Horizontal and Sagittal Planes

Horizontal and sagittal dipole layer distributions were estimated from scalp electroencephalogram for three dimensional dipole imaging of brain electrical activity. Horizontal dipole layer being parallel to the brain surface has been used in previous head models. In the present study, the dipole layer distribution in the sagittal plane was also introduced to identify the position of dipole sour...

Large Lithium Polymer Battery Modeling for the Simulation of Hybrid Electric Vehicles Using the Equivalent Circuit Method

In the present study, a model of a large Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) battery for use in the simulation of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) is developed. To attain this goal, an Equivalent Circuit (EC) consisting of a series resistor and two RC parallel networks is considered. The accuracy and the response time of the model for use in an HEV simulator are studied. The battery parameters identifica...

Gamma Knife Simulation Using the MCNP4C Code and the Zubal Phantom and Comparison with Experimental Data

Introduction: Gamma Knife is an instrument specially designed for treating brain disorders. In Gamma Knife, there are 201 narrow beams of cobalt-60 sources that intersect at an isocenter point to treat brain tumors. The tumor is placed at the isocenter and is treated by the emitted gamma rays. Therefore, there is a high dose at this point and a low dose is delivered to the normal tissue surroun...
